If you’ve got the nerve, there’s something exhilarating about getting on a stage and singing along in front of strangers. Karaoke is also a fun way to celebrate a milestone birthday or a special guest in for a visit.
Of course, there’s always undiscovered talent that you can’t help but wonder “why are they performing in a karaoke bar?” Personally, I say, “The worse, the better.” I love when people know they aren’t the greatest singers and make it fun for everyone.
Who doesn’t love a person who simply wants to have a good time and cares nothing about what others think? It’s incredibly endearing when someone is willing to go the distance for a good laugh and a fun sing-along.
Some of my best memories in life are karaoke nights with my friends. Especially “that one night” at the World Famous Cat’s Meow over in the Big Easy.
According to online sources that are completely unchecked for accuracy, karaoke means “empty orchestra” in Japanese and originated in Kobe, Japan in the ’70s.
But I think it means a really fun night out! So where can you karaoke in the ‘Cola? I have three recommendations that will carry you through every night of the week:
Sir Richard’s Public House hosts karaoke on Monday nights from 9 p.m. – 1 a.m. (that’s a lot of karaoke!) at 2719 E. Cervantes in the East Pensacola Heights neighborhood.
This Tuesday, May 2 Play will host a karaoke night, as they do every Tuesday. They are repeatedly voted one of the best on the coast for karaoke and are located at 16 S. Palafox Place, downtown.
Every Wednesday – Sunday at Lili Marlene’s in Seville Quarter karaoke rocks out from 8 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. Seville Quarter is located at 130 E. Government Street downtown.
We know this isn’t the entire list, so tell us…where’s your favorite place to karaoke?
