Pack a picnic, grab a couple of chairs, and invite a few friends.  It’s time to fly a kite! There are four kite festivals in the Gulf Coast area this year that plan on filling the sky with bright colors.

The Council on Aging of West Florida’s second annual Kites on the Coast event will be two days of intergenerational, high-flying fun on beautiful Casino Beach in Pensacola Friday, March 17 (4 p.m. – 10 p.m.) and Saturday, March 18 (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.).

The community is invited to celebrate this classic pastime with kite flying, activities, local vendors, food trucks, and showstopping demonstrations from Chicago Kite and SkyFX.

Proceeds from event donations and sponsors support the seniors and programs served by Council on Aging.

The fun includes professional kite flying demonstrations, kids’ activities, kite hospital, food trucks, kites for sale on site or bring your own to fly!

Spring Kite Festival, Ft Walton Beach ~ April 1st – 2nd at 5 p.m. and Fly into Fall Kite Festival, Ft Walton Beach ~ September 23rd – September 24th, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

What do a 100- foot octopus, 80- foot panda, and a 50- foot gator have in common? They’ll all be flying high over The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island. Join Kitty Hawk Kites and the Emerald Coast Kite Flyers Club for 4 days of FREE kite-flying fun.

Enjoy larger-than-life show kites, professional stunt kite flying demonstrations, free kite flying lessons, a family fun fly perfect for any age, and special activities at the Kitty Hawk Kites store at The Boardwalk.

Kites over Mobile, Mobile, AL ~ April 15th – April 16th

This year’s festival will be held at a new location – Brookley By The Bay, 254 Old Bay Front Drive. Saturday will begin at 10am and close out at 5 p.m. and Sunday will begin at 12n and wrap at 5 p.m.

On the schedule are kite displays, a kite hospital, live music and a candy drop.
