Join Escambia County, Escambia Extension, and Florida Master Gardeners for free coastal landscaping workshops and plant giveaways. Workshops will take place on Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. and March 3 at 11:30 a.m. at the Perdido Key Community Center, 15500 Perdido Key Drive; and March 7 at 6 p.m. and March 10 at 1 p.m. at the Gulf Breeze Community Center, 800 Shoreline Drive.

Workshops are free and open to the public. All workshops will focus on landscaping with native species found in local coastal ecosystems, particularly those on the barrier islands. Topics of discussion will include plant selection, landscape design and landscaping with a purpose, such as for pollinators or wildlife. Attendees will also receive a small selection of native plants to use in their landscapes.

Workshops will focus on the barrier island and coastal ecosystems, however, attendees do not need to live in those areas to attend.

“Anyone with a passion for native landscapes should sign up,” said Samantha Bolduc, Environmental Program Manager with Escambia County. “Most of the species we discuss will grow in a variety of habitat types, not just on the coast.”

Event registration is highly encouraged. Register at the links below:

The project will build off the success of the Perdido Key Coastal Demonstration Garden installed last year and will provide coastal residents with both the information and plants needed to jumpstart their own native landscaping plans. Both projects were funded by the Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program Community Grant Program. Learn more about the Perdido Key Coastal Demonstration Garden here.
