Learning from the professional surfers with Waterboys Surf and Skim Camp is the best way to start chasing the waves. Summer camp dates have been decided are already becoming close to full.
Here are the details:
Where: Camp is held on Pensacola Beach at Park East, which is about a mile East of Portofino just past the “S” curve.
Schedule: Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 12noon. Camp size is limited per week.
Age Limit: The participant must be at least 7 years old and a good swimmer.
What to Bring:
+Pack and bring a lunch! There is a snack with water provided during break.
+Proper Attire: Swim/surf trunks or proper fitting one/two-piece suit. A rash guard is recommended but not required
+Equipment: Bring a towel and a refillable water bottle. They will have Sun Bum sunscreen at the tent or bring your own. No worries, they provide camp surfboards and skim boards.
Details: Their instructors have years of experience surfing and skimming and are among the best surfers in Pensacola. Instructors teach campers both in groups and one on one.
Campers will be taught proper techniques for paddling and surfing, ocean awareness concerning swell directions and rip currents, and proper etiquette in the line-up.
Students that are progressing faster will be given additional advanced instructions on improving their surfing skills. For campers that are interested in learning skimboarding, the same instructions will ensue concerning skimboarding skills. There is usually a range of abilities in each session which help the campers to motivate each other.
As Waterboyz cannot guarantee rideable surf daily, their teaching format is subject to change. Alternative programs such as paddle skills skimboarding, and beach games to improve board riding skills will be substituted if a flat spell or bad weather conditions occur.
