On Thursday, April 21, the Escambia County Emergency Communications telecommunicators were honored during the Board of County Commissioners meeting with a proclamation to acknowledge their dedication and steadfast devotion to the wellbeing of the citizens of Escambia County.
This year, National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week took place between April 10-16. The theme of this year’s NPSTW was “Telecommunicators-Activate Superpowers!”
Escambia County telecommunicators are critical to the safety and wellbeing of residents. Emergency responders rely on their knowledge and professionalism to make critical decisions, obtain information and quickly dispatch needed aid.
“Our Escambia County 9-1-1 telecommunicators are vital to the success of our first responders,” said Public Safety Director Eric Gilmore. “The work of these men and women is invaluable in emergency situations, and they deserve our heartfelt appreciation.”
During 2021, Emergency Communications dispatched 90,522 calls involving Fire Rescue or EMS. As of April 21, 2022, over 19,000 calls have been dispatched during emergency situations.
“My relationship with Escambia County Emergency Communications is very personal because they have been there for my family before,” said Escambia County District 4 Commissioner Robert Bender. “Our telecommunicators are critical to the success of our Public Safety system. These people are more than that anonymous voice over the phone. In addition to taking your call and dispatching first responders, they provide lifesaving advice over the phone, and I am very thankful for everything these men and women do for Escambia County.”
Escambia County wants to congratulate and thank the men and women of Emergency Communications who answer the call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
