Pensacola Habitat for Humanity received a $20,000 disaster services grant from Habitat for Humanity International and State Farm® to aid in Hurricane Sally home repair efforts in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties.

Pensacola Habitat used a substantial portion of the grant to replace a roof for Pensacola resident, Cindy McCown through their Community Development Program. McCown had her roof replaced on her home seven years before Hurricane Sally hit our area causing major damage to her roof.

“The repair was greatly appreciated. I did not know that I even needed a new roof because I recently had my roof replaced. I had rotten wood on my roof… that [repair] saved my life…you just don’t know how much I appreciate you all.” stated McCown. “I can’t imagine where I would be without Pensacola Habitat and State Farm.”

State Farm is not only supporting Pensacola Habitat’s Community Development Program financially, but also through volunteering. On March 4 and 5 State Farm Agents and local youth will be working together on the final project funded by the grant. Together they will be helping a local resident by rebuilding their wheelchair ramp that was destroyed during Hurricane Sally.

“State Farm is pleased to team up with Habitat for Humanity to support recovery efforts through this grant,” said Apsara Sorensen, Corporate Responsibility Director at State Farm. “Part of the State Farm mission is to help people recover from the unexpected. We hope this disaster services grant goes a long way in helping the Pensacola community recover from Hurricane Sally.”

State Farm and Habitat for Humanity, Intl are providing up to $100,000 in grants for disaster recovery projects that engage youth. State Farm has been a supporter of Habitat for Humanity International’s youth initiatives since 2007.
