A healing garden located in the town square of the new Baptist Health Care campus currently under construction at I-110 and Brent Lane will be named the Morette Healing Garden in honor of a $250,000 gift to Baptist Health Care Foundation from the Morette family and their construction firm, Morette Company.

The new campus’ town square, with its heritage oaks, magnolia trees and other native landscaping, will serve as the centerpiece of the campus. Walking paths, outdoor classrooms, rehab areas and an event space will provide a calming environment that will help alleviate anxiety and inspire a sense of community. The Morette Healing Garden will offer a serene space for quiet reflection.

Patriarch Rick Morette spent weeks at Baptist Hospital being treated for cancer before passing away in July 2009. His wife, Sharon Morette, said that she spent a lot of time outside the walls of Baptist praying for her husband during that time. Upon learning of Baptist’s plans to build a healing garden at the new campus, Sharon knew it could help people going through difficult times and would be a fitting way to honor her late husband. Her son, Mike Morette, and his wife, Laura Rae, along with Sharon’s daughter, Nikki Morette Bell, and husband, Rob Bell, agreed.

“From the doctors and nurses to the housekeeping staff and lunch servers, everyone was so kind to our family,” said Mike Morette, who is a Baptist Health Care Foundation board member. “We never forgot that loving experience despite the sad circumstances. People at Baptist act with compassion; they don’t just talk about it. We are honored to give back to Baptist which has been so generous to our family. I’m most excited for the new Baptist Health Care campus because I want the exterior to match the beautiful interior and heart of what Baptist truly is and stands for, their Mission of helping people throughout life’s journey.”

Morette Company has been involved in a number of construction projects for Baptist over the years, including expansions within the current Baptist Hospital campus, renovations at Gulf Breeze Hospital and the construction of Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.

“Words can’t adequately express our gratitude for the long-standing relationship between the Morette family and Baptist,” said Mark Faulkner, president and CEO of Baptist Health Care. “We are honored to be their trusted partner for care for so many years and are incredibly thankful for this gift.”
