Coast Guard Cutter “Diligence” Welcomes New Commander

Cmdr. Luke Slivinski recently transferred the authority over the Coast Guard Cutter “Diligence” to Cmdr Jared Trusz. The 210-foot medium endurance cutter “Diligence” was brought back to Pensacola along with 75 crewmembers. The Cutter’s primary missions include migrant interdiction, support of the Coast Guard’s search and rescue operations, counter-drug ops, and enforcing federal fisheries law.

Getting to Know the New Commander: Jared Trusz

Before becoming commander of Diligence, Cmdr. Jared Trusz had served the Coast Guard for 20 years on 4 different cutters. “It’s an honor and privilege to assume command of Diligence,” Trusz previously said as he commended the highly adaptive and well-trained crew under the outgoing Cmdr. Slivinski.

Cmdr. Slivinski led Diligence starting August 2019 and oversaw 5 patrols in the South Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean. On top of these assignments, it also transferred homeports and handled unit readiness during the Covid-19 pandemic. “I will miss the operations, the crew camaraderie, the constant and consistent progress, the adventure, overcoming challenges and experiencing the always beautiful but frequently unforgiving sea,” Slivinski mentioned.

A change-of-command ceremony marks a transfer of total authority and responsibility from one individual to another. The event is a time-honored tradition held before the assembled crew, dignitaries, and honored guests to demonstrate the succession of authority within a command.
