Gaetz interviewed by far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones

Northwest Florida congressman Matt Gaetz on Monday appeared on far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ radio show to discuss a so-called “secret intelligence memo” as well as his ongoing criticism of former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Jones, who called Gaetz a “rising star in the Republican party,” hosts the nationally syndicated radio program The Alex Jones Show, video of which is also streamed live on Jones’ Infowars website.

Gaetz began the 15-minute interview by renewing his call for the release of a Republican-written House Intelligence Committee memorandum said to call into question the FBI’s conduct in obtaining a secret surveillance order on a former Trump campaign associate. Democrats on the committee have said the memo is a partisan attempt to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation into possible ties between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

“Well I think we’ve got a lot of momentum in the Congress to get this memo released and before the American people and that’s absolutely essential,” Gaetz told Jones, adding that he thought President Trump should read the memo during his State of the Union address on Tuesday.

On a party-line vote, the House Intelligence Committee voted Monday evening to release the memo, despite the Justice Department’s warning that its release would be “extraordinarily reckless.”

Gaetz has said in recent days that he believes there is a “criminal conspiracy” within the FBI to discredit and undermine President Trump.

“We’re called, like, conspiracy theorists because we see this cabal right in front of us,” Gaetz told Jones. “We’re able to aggregate these data points and show what was really going on.”

Gaetz has also repeatedly said that Mueller is biased and should be removed as special counsel. Mueller, a lifelong Republican, was appointed as special counsel by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, also a lifelong Republican.

“They’re going to be like cornered rats when this [Russia] investigation is shown to be the fraud that it is,” Gaetz added.

Later in the interview, Gaetz renewed his ongoing criticism of former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, citing “credible media reports” that FBI agents in the Bureau’s Little Rock, Ark. field office are investigating evidence of bribery and corruption in connection with the Clinton Foundation.

“There are a lot of people that paid bribes to the Clinton Foundation that still might be getting a benefit from this government,” Gaetz said.

Gaetz didn’t identify the “credible media reports” he was referencing, and didn’t offer any facts to substantiate his allegations of bribery.

“I think that should really worry Hillary Clinton and some of the people who were paying money for influence within the Clinton world,” Gaetz said. “This is going to be frontline work done by real field agents out in the Little Rock field office and they should be concerned because justice may be coming to their doorstep very soon.”

Jones and his Infowars website are well-known for promoting conspiracy theories and other unsourced claims. Among Jones’ public claims are that Hillary Clinton has “personally murdered, chopped up, and raped” children; that the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in which 20 children were killed was a “false flag” operation perpetrated by the government; and that a government program is designed to turn U.S. troops and civilians (and frogs) gay using chemical weapons, vaccines, and tap water.
