Congressman Justin Amash of Michigan will join congressional candidate Rebekah Johansen Bydlak at a rally Friday at her campaign headquarters in Pensacola, Bydlak’s campaign announced.
Bydlak is one of eight candidates vying to replace the retiring Jeff Miller, who has represented Northwest Florida in Congress since 2001.
Amash, a favorite of the Tea Party and Libertarian wings of the Republican Party, currently serves as chair of the House Liberty Caucus. The second-youngest member of Congress when he was elected in 2010, Amash has been noted for never having missed a vote during his time in Congress, as well as for his use of social media to explain votes and interact with constituents.
“Rarely does a candidate as talented and principled as Rebekah come along, and I’m thrilled at the prospect of serving with her in Congress,” said Amash in a statement.
A native of Escambia County, the 26-year-old Bydlak served as Director of Outreach for the Coalition to Reduce Spending before launching her congressional campaign. Bydlak faces State Sen. Greg Evers, State Rep. Matt Gaetz, Cris Dosev, Brian Frazier, Mark Wichern, and James Zumwalt in a crowded August 30 Republican primary field.
Bydlak’s rally featuring Congressman Amash will be held on Friday, August 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the campaign’s headquarters, located at 6503 North W Street in Pensacola. Supporters, the general public, and press are welcome.
