Wiggins to take on May for Escambia commission

Sgt. Delarian Wiggins (Escambia County Sheriff's Office/Special to The Pulse)

Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Delarian Wiggins has withdrawn from the Pensacola City Council District 7 race and instead filed Thursday to challenge Democrat Lumon May for the District 3 seat on the Escambia County Commission.

Wiggins, 42, is a ten-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office and was most recently promoted to sergeant in 2014.

A registered Democrat, Wiggins filed to run for the commission seat with no party affiliation, ensuring a place in the November general election rather than an August primary. A third candidate in the District 3 race, Mirza Ahmad, is also running without party affiliation.

Wiggins had previously filed in October to run for the Pensacola City Council seat currently held by Jewel Cannada-Wynn, but he withdrew from that race last week.

Wiggins was not immediately available for comment.
