Trump, Clinton dominate Northwest Florida and state

Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton dominated the vote in Northwest Florida on their way to statewide victories in Florida’s presidential primary Tuesday.

With 79 of 79 precincts reporting, Trump took 41.73% of Republican votes in Escambia County, as compared to his statewide take of 45.8 percent. Trump also carried Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton counties, with 46.4%, 45.25%, and 51.84% respectively.

As Florida is a winner-take-all state for Republicans, Trump will take all 99 of the state’s pledged delegates.

Clinton finished with 62.24% of Democratic votes in Escambia County, 48.15% in Santa Rosa, 50.83% in Okaloosa, and 49.95% in Walton County. She carried Florida easily, winning more than 64% of Democratic votes statewide. As of 10:00 p.m. Tuesday — with 99% of the statewide vote reporting — Clinton was expected to win 122 delegates in Florida, with opponent Bernie Sanders taking 60 delegates.

Turnout in Escambia County was 38.7 percent, with around 55% of the vote coming in at the polls on Tuesday. 26.3% of voters voted by mail, and another 18.3% voted early.
